Translated by Stepan M. Pechkin

Main idea of translation was to help a foreigner coming to unknown city to find the place he'll be most likely met by good people, in a least spans of time and difficulty.

SP> Tusovka places SP> –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-

SP> Moscow – Arbat (Old),

- middle part, near "Bubliki". Arbat is a long thing. In the beginning goes "redneck" part, there they play jailhouse music, and there stand rednecks, next –unidentified tusovkas, Bubliki and surrounding – clearly hippy places, well sometimes some nirvanists gathering there, opposite the theatre gather rather hi-lifers, and forward to the end – hi-life area.

SP> Kropa (monument of Elvis);

very rarely, especially in winter, but then you must climb up to the roof, in summer there is somebody up there almost always.

SP> Novosibirsk – near Opera Theatre,

In Moscow there is also tusovka near Bolshoy Theatre. Gays are gathering there ;)

Hello Boris!

Tue Feb 11 1997 13:56, Boris V. Faddeev wrote to Sasha Pyriaev:

BVF> Caffee "Koshka" (Belinskovo st.)

"Rim", "El'f", "Saigon",... :(

"Rim" – caffee that was situated opposite Lensoveta Culture Palace on Kamennoostrovsky pr., "Petrogradskaya" subway station. Functioned up to 1997; tusovka ceased much earlier, some in 1988.

"El'f" – garden near the caffee "El'f", corner of Dmitrovsky per. and Stremyannaya st. Tusovka ceased about 1990.

"Saigon" – caffee on the corner of Nevsky and Vladimirsky prospects. Functioned since 1969 up to 1989. Now they sell Russian and other music there, which is much better than lavatory and bathroom equipment, as in 1993-1996. Though this also doesn't fit to the place that for 20 years was a center, a Mecca, is glorified in numerous songs and innumerous poems; I don't know what do they do in Greenwich Village, though...

BVF> "Abbey-Road" (Liteiny and Nekrasova corner),
BVF>
stairs of Inzhenerny Castle (have you forgot? :-)

Well, then add "Klimat" – subway exit to Griboyedova Channel from station "Gostiny Dvor"

BVF> Feodosia (summer) – on the embankment, near Aivazovsky's museum

Koktebel' (summer) – "Piatak" (on Broadway) – not far from Voloshin's house (in the evenings they have jam-sessions there),

Green zoneright turn after all beaches (after nudist beach) when face to the sea (it is a tent camp),

Lisya Bay (Liska) – ~8 km to the left (past Karadag) near village Shebetovka.

Simeiz (summer) – central (IMHO) hippy place in Crimea, left from the town past the mountain Koshka (=Cat Mountain), near Goluboi Zaliv (=Blue Bay) ("Volchya Past'" (=Wolf's Gorge), rocks, below the lower road) and the forest above it (camps, which are also tusovkas).

Foros (summer) – jam-sessions in the town near gastronom (close to the market), and the camps are commonly left from the town, past border guard watchtower, and higher in the mountain, for the grey uniforms are in lots below.

In Odessa fair people is being-in at the following points of space.

  1. "Taverna" – drinking-feeding house. Relatively cheep and more or less consolating. !Opens about dinner time (when the personnel revives after yesterday's)! Easy to find: Petra Velikogo st. (now Dvoryanskaya), in the block between Sadovaya and Pastera sts. Two steps from Deribasovskaya and City Garden.
  2. "Lyapun" Lyapunovski Sad (=Lyapunov Garden). In winter few are gathering there, though :) Situated near "Taverna", Pastera st., in the Odessa State University yard..
  3. City Garden (Deribasovskaya st.), and especially "Podkova" situated there. Kind of open ring equipped with seats, with grand tree in the center. City Garden is an interesting place itself (kind of Arbat).
  4. "Tolkodrom" – naturally, for tolkienauts. Big flat ground dug with shoes and noses of elves and nazguls. You find it a bit above Langeron beach (above beach road) and a bit below Shevchenko Park.
